What is Chiropractic?
Subluxated Vertebrae setting the stage for a pinched nerve.
Legally, chiropractic is defined individually by each country where it is practiced and by each state in the United States. However, a broad definition is that chiropractic is a science, art, and philosophy of things natural. It is a system of locating, analyzing, and correcting subluxations for the purpose of restoring normal nerve transmissions in the body to promote a foundation for health restoration.
To explain further, health can be defined as optimum function in the body, preferably 100%, although that is rarely achieved. Health can also be synonymous with homeostasis. Homeostasis is functional equilibrium in the body. Equilibrium is a result of optimal balance of the various systems of the body (i.e.- circulatory, digestive, etc.). This requires an optimal functioning nervous system. Your nervous system controls and coordinates all body functions by way of electrical signals transferred over nerves. These signals travel in the form of electrical currents, thus they have wavelengths or frequencies. These frequencies are specific code from the brain to the body in which the body receives and functions accordingly. In electrical physics, any resistance along a circuit will alter its electrical current's wavelength, thus altering the frequency. This alteration induces an altered function in the body not intended by the brain. This is where we get terms like mal-function, dis-order, or even dis-ease.
Misaligned vertebrae create a resistance to nerve impulses when the misalignment exerts pressure greater than one millimeter on the nerve that exits the spine at that site. Such misaligned vertebrae causing nerve interference are called subluxations. How this affects health is as follows: subluxations affect nervous system function, which affects homeostasis, thus affecting health. Chiropractic’s supreme mission is to restore health by eliminating subluxations when and wherever they are detected.
